May 5, 2026 Update (as of 11:18 am)

On the evening of April 23, 2026, a tornado touched down in Enid and caused damage in parts of Vance Air Force Base and the Gray Ridge neighborhood. The tornado has been classified as an F4, the first tornado of this strength in Garfield County since April 1991.

Cleanup and recovery efforts are ongoing.

Please Avoid Impacted Area

City officials ask all residents to avoid the damaged areas while emergency crews work to:

  • Clear debris
  • Support affected residents
  • Maintain safe access for first responders and utility crews

Staying away from these areas helps crews work safely and quickly.

Safety Reminders

Please keep these safety tips in mind:

  • Do not enter blocked or damaged areas.
  • Do not move debris unless it is safe to do so.
  • Follow directions from emergency personnel.
  • Check on neighbors, especially older adults and people with disabilities, by phone or text when possible.

Free Copies of Deeds

According to Enid News & Eagle, Property owners in Gray Ridge Estates and surrounding area who have suffered loss due to the tornado can obtain free, certified copies of deeds to assist them with any paperwork they might need while navigating insurance or assistance programs, according to the Garfield County Clerk’s office.

Those in need of copies can call (580) 237-0226, option 1, or go to the Garfield County Register of Deeds Division of the County Clerk’s office, 114 W. Broadway, Room 105, on the main floor of the Garfield County Court House. Property owners will need to provide a photo I.D. or proof of identity. Officials also can deliver if transportation is an issue.


Homeowners Information Sheet

Landfill Hours: The landfill is opened Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

Health Services: Tetanus vaccinations will be available at the Garfield County Health Department, 2501 Mercer Drive.

Lost and Found Pets & Pet Food Donations

Pets
If you have a pet that is lost you can check the Enid Animal Welfare Facebook page and or visit the facility directly to see if they have your pet. Enid Animal Welfare is located at: 1200 S. 10th Street.

ESPCA - Food for pets, offering microchip scanning for any found pets so we can help reunite them with their families as quickly as possible.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Benefits

Replacement SNAP benefits are available.

Policy permits the replacement of food purchased with SNAP benefits lost due to a “household misfortune” such as storms. Clients need to complete this form within 10 calendar days of the event at the following website:
