Police Officers

Enid Police Department officers may work in a variety of assignments throughout their careers, including:

Minimum qualifications

To become an Enid Police Department officer, applicants must:

  • Be a United States citizen between 21 and 45 years of age
  • Be a high school graduate or have a GED; college experience is preferred
  • Pass health, psychological, and drug-screen examinations
  • Pass an in-depth background investigation, including a polygraph examination

Tattoo standards

Tattoos are permitted under certain conditions. Offensive or obscene tattoos are prohibited. Tattoos on the head, face, or neck are prohibited. Tattoos below the wrist are prohibited, except for one ring-style tattoo on each hand that does not exceed 3/8 inch in width between the knuckle and the next finger joint.

Pay and advancement

Non-certified police officer starting salary: $56,241.47 annually.

Officers may test for promotion to Sergeant after four years of service.

Opportunities for certified officers

Certified police officers who are CLEET certified, graduates of the COPS Program, or who have reciprocal law enforcement certification in another state may be eligible for:

  • A $10,000 sign-on bonus, with $5,000 paid after completing the first year and $5,000 paid after completing the second year
  • Higher starting base pay
  • Condensed field training

Civilian Support Staff

Civilian support staff are vital to the Enid Police Department's mission. These team members serve in a variety of task-specific positions, including:

  • 911 Communications Center supervisors and operators
  • Animal Welfare manager and officers
  • Community Intervention Center manager and attendants
  • Police Records supervisor and clerks
  • Management assistant
  • Administrative assistant

  • Be at least 18 years of age; some positions require applicants to be at least 21
  • Be a high school graduate or have a GED; related experience is preferred for some positions
  • Pass physical and drug-screen examinations
  • Pass an in-depth background investigation, including a polygraph examination

Selected civilian support staff schedules

Work schedules vary by position and operational need. The following schedules apply to the listed positions:

Position Typical schedule
911 Communications Center A 40-hour workweek consisting of three 12-hour shifts and one additional four-hour shift. The center operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so weekend and holiday work is required.
Building Maintenance Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.; weekends and holidays off.
Community Intervention Center A standard 40-hour workweek consisting of five eight-hour shifts, with periodic overnight on-call responsibilities.
Police Records Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; weekends and holidays off.
