Stormwater Division

TractorThe Stormwater division staff service all drainage channels and smaller ditches throughout the City of Enid by keeping the flood channels, storm drains and other drainage ways open and free of debris.

One of the largest tributaries starts on W. Oxford Road between Oakwood Road and Cleveland Street. This creek is known as Boggy Creek. Boggy Creek also has a west branch that starts on W. Willow Road between Garland Road and Oakwood Road. Both of these creeks flow to the south and come together at a fork on W. Chestnut between Oakwood Road and Cleveland Street. Boggy Creek flows to the south through Meadowlake Park. Part of this flood channel was constructed by the Army Core of Engineers, and it is the only flood channel constructed with a levy. The levy is located west of the Indian Hills addition.

There are other tributaries to Boggy Creek, such as, North Boggy Creek. This tributary starts just south of Purdue between Van Buren and Washington. Crosslin Lake discharges into North Boggy Creek, making this creek one of the larger flood control channels within the City Of Enid. CDBG dollars have been allocated for the maintenance of this flood channel. The total amount of CDBG dollars allocated for North Boggy Creek is $29,990. These dollars will help pay for the manpower and equipment needed for some of the repairs. These repairs will reduce flooding and improve the surrounding neighborhoods.

The roadway maintenance and storm water division also handle all mowing and maintenance of the storm water ditches, flood channels, and highways. With this combined effort, this department mows over 1,100 lane miles per round of mowing. This equates to about 4,400 lane miles per season. The total acres per one round of mowing equates to approximately 1000 acres within the city limits. The staff also has over 10,000 utility poles, road signs, drainage flumes and gas meters to mow and trim around. IMG_0589.jpg part0.jpg

Adopt-A-Street Program

What is Adopt-A-Street

The City of Enid’s Adopt-A-Street Program allows local families, businesses, and community groups to perform a valuable community service by adopting sections of a street to keep clear of litter and debris. Groups who participate in the Adopt-A Street Program will have their name listed on the City’s website and signage will be installed on their adopted street. Even though monetary tributes are appreciated, the real reward is taking pride in your community and knowing that you are part of a team that keeps Enid beautiful. Through a collaborative effort, we can all make a positive difference in the appearance and health of this great city.

Why Adopt?

  • Enid is growing by leaps and bounds, and the surging population means more cars on our roadways and, unfortunately, more trash.
  • Although nearly 70 percent of litter on Enid streets is removed by City Employees, volunteer efforts significantly reduce litter cleanup costs and save taxpayers money.
  • It's a free, easy way for groups to help beautify their communities.

Who Should Adopt?

Individuals, families, youth organizations, businesses (large and small), civic and non-profit organizations, religious groups, fraternities, sororities, schools…everyone should take pride in our beautiful City and Adopt-a-Street.

Participation is Simple

  • You adopt a one-mile stretch of highway for a minimum of two years.
  • You agree to pick up litter at least four times per year.
  • Adopt-a-Street signs will be posted with your group’s name at your adopted section. Note: Group or individual must conduct one clean up before Adopt-A-Street Sign can be installed.
  • Required documentation and advanced notification must be submitted prior to any clean up activity.
  • Group or individual must agree with adoption terms and sign a contractual agreement.
  • Adopt-a-Street will provide your volunteers with safety vests, litter bags and safety training.
  • You will bask in the glory of claiming a piece of Enid pride.
