Youth Cadet Program

The Youth Cadet Program gives participants an opportunity to learn about the role and responsibilities of police officers through instruction, training, and hands-on activities.

Cadets learn about criminal law and how officers apply it while responding to calls for service and other situations.

Cadets receive instruction and training related to police operations, including:

Cadets are issued uniforms and equipment for training activities and for competitions with other youth law-enforcement programs.

Cadets may participate in one ride-along each month, if they choose. Volunteer opportunities may also be available for Police Department-related events.

To apply, pick up a Youth Cadet Program application at the Records window in the Enid Police Department lobby.

Applicants must complete the application process, pay a one-time registration fee of $200, and complete the following steps:

1. Submit a completed Youth Cadet Program application.
2. Complete a background check conducted by a program advisor.
3. Participate in an oral board interview with a program advisor and current cadets.

Once accepted, cadets may remain in the program until they choose to leave, are asked to leave, or age out of the program.

Records hours: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding City holidays.

The program began in September 2022 with nine Explorers.

In August 2026, the program ended its affiliation with Scouting America and transitioned from the Explorers program to the Enid Police Department Youth Cadet Program.
