Youth Fishing Clinic

Park visitors, including children and adults, sit under a lakeside pavilion while a uniformed instructor leads a hands-on fishing lesson and participants practice tying fishing line knots.

This free event is perfect for young anglers who are eager to learn the basics of fishing. Skills learned can be used to compete for prizes at the 4th of July Fishing Derby!

What to Expect

  • Hands-On Learning: The clinic will begin with a one-hour session of hands-on learning, where participants will gain essential fishing skills and knowledge.
  • Catch and Release Practice: Following the learning session, kids will enjoy two hours of catch and release fishing practice, putting their new skills to the test.
  • Equipment Provided: Fishing poles and bait will be supplied to all registered participants.
  • Lunch Included: Free pizza and water will be provided for lunch following the catch and release practice.

Instructor

The clinic will be taught by Melissa Robell, the Visitor Services Specialist at Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge. Melissa brings her expertise and passion for wildlife and fishing to ensure a memorable experience for all participants.

With only 50 spots available, be sure to register early to secure a place for your child. This clinic is a fantastic opportunity for youngsters to develop new skills, enjoy the great outdoors, and make new friends.
