Citizens Police Academy

The Citizens Police Academy is designed to open channels of communication between Enid residents and their Police Department. The Academy also helps participants understand the role of police in the community.

The goal is not to make police officers out of Academy graduates. Instead, the program helps participants become better-informed citizens with an accurate understanding of the department's responsibilities and functions.

Classes are taught by police officers, detectives, and other Enid Police Department personnel in their areas of expertise. Participants will have opportunities to experience aspects of police work through presentations and hands-on activities.

Participants will visit the police shooting range and may have an opportunity to participate in a ride-along with an officer. Participants will also have opportunities to meet and speak with officers, command staff, and training staff.

The Academy includes an opportunity for participants to shoot a variety of firearms used by the Enid Police Department and SWAT Team.

The Citizens Police Academy meets once each week for a two-and-a-half-hour session. Because portions of the Academy include hands-on activities, class size is limited.

Applicants must complete an application and pass a background check to be considered for acceptance into the program. Selected applicants will receive the Academy start date.

Applications are accepted annually from December 1 through February 1 for the Academy that begins in March.
