City of Enid Shares Ongoing Disaster Recovery and Cleanup Information
ENID, OK (April 30, 2026) – Cleanup and recovery efforts remain ongoing in Enid following the tornado on April 23, and City officials are asking residents to continue avoiding impacted areas unless they are directly authorized to be there.
For the safety of homeowners, emergency personnel, and organized recovery teams, the public is asked not to enter the cleanup zone unless they are a resident of the neighborhood, a first responder, public official, approved volunteer through Samaritan’s Purse, the Enid Volunteer Emergency Response Team, or the media.
The community is mobilizing 600 volunteers for a major cleanup effort on Saturday, May 2. To support that effort, Enid Public Schools will provide three buses running on rotation for three volunteer shifts of 200 people each: 8a.m. – 12p.m.; 12p.m. – 3p.m.; and 3p.m. – 6p.m.
Approved volunteers will park in a designated area and be transported by bus to the cleanup site.
“The recovery effort has already seen an incredible outpouring of support from our community and partner agencies,” said Derrick Silas, Director of Communications for the City of Enid. “We are grateful for the residents, first responders, volunteers, and public servants who are working together to help affected families recover. At the same time, we need everyone to follow the established process so this work can continue safely and efficiently.”
The City also reminds homeowners who need to rebuild or repair roof structures that a list of approved contractors is available on the City website.
To assist with storm debris disposal, the City landfill will continue operating under extended hours this week: Monday through Friday, 7a.m. to 6p.m.; Saturday, 8a.m. to 4p.m.; and Sunday, 9a.m. to 2p.m.
City Manager Jerald Gilbert expressed appreciation to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation and the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority for their assistance in removing debris, and transporting materials to the landfill. “City staff has been working diligently throughout the recovery process. The debris removal effort is progressing quickly with more than 1,250 tons of debris already removed.”
Meal assistance also remains available for those affected. The Salvation Army is providing hot meals through Sunday with breakfast at 7:00 a.m., lunch at 11:30 a.m., and dinner at 5p.m.
City officials are also asking local restaurants and groups wishing to donate food or hot meals to coordinate directly through the Salvation Army at (580) 275-8442. Community members are asked not to arrive with food donations unless they have gone through that process first.
The City of Enid thanks everyone who has shown compassion and support to impacted homeowners, first responders, and volunteers during this recovery effort. For updates and additional recovery information, visit Enid.org/DisasterRelief.
