Special Needs Alert Program (SNAP)

The Enid Police Department Special Needs Alert Program, also known as SNAP, helps first responders identify and assist individuals with special needs during an emergency.

For emergencies: Call 911. Do not use the SNAP form or email to request immediate emergency assistance.

About SNAP

SNAP allows Enid residents to provide information that can help police, fire, and emergency medical services personnel respond more effectively during an emergency.

After enrollment, a SNAP alert is created in the communications database. The alert can provide first responders with information about an individual's condition, communication needs, or other considerations before they arrive at an incident.

SNAP alerts may also help first responders identify an individual with special needs who requires assistance.

Who May Benefit From SNAP?

SNAP may benefit individuals with physical, developmental, behavioral, emotional, cognitive, or other conditions that may require specialized assistance during an emergency.

The program may also be helpful for individuals with dementia, Alzheimer's disease, or other conditions that may affect communication, mobility, decision-making, or personal safety.

How SNAP Information Is Used

Enrollment in SNAP creates two types of alerts in the communications database:

Personal Alert

A Personal Alert is connected to the individual's name, date of birth, and description. This alert does not expire.

Location Alert

A Location Alert is connected to an address. This alert must be updated annually to remain active.

When an officer is dispatched to a call for service, the communications database may notify responding personnel about SNAP alerts associated with an involved person or the location of the incident.

A SNAP alert is not a label. It is an additional resource that helps first responders better communicate with and assist an individual based on their specific needs.

Information may be provided to police, fire, or emergency medical services personnel responding to an incident, depending on the nature of the call.

Keep information current: Location Alert information must be updated annually and whenever the individual's address or other submitted information changes.
