City of Enid Unveils Redesigned Service-Oriented Website

ENID, OK (January 15, 2020) – The City of Enid, Oklahoma is announcing the launch of a new modernized website that will enhance the City’s ability to serve, prioritize, and engage its community. This modern designed website will offer residents, visitors and businesses a user friendly, accessible, and service-oriented design.

Research and Data: The City utilized a community survey, a heat map, web analytics, and usability report for the purpose of creating a redesigned website that features the needs of the community. The community survey concluded that the top visits to the website have been for information about utility payments, trash collection schedules, permits, available jobs, meetings, and updates. As a result, these options were largely focused on to make the website more convenient to the users. The heat map showed the content mostly utilized on the homepage. Usability testers concluded that the navigation had too many options, the design was outdated, and the website needed clear calls to action. Website analytics concluded that nearly half of web traffic came from those using a mobile device.

Goals and Outcomes: City goals were to create a website that was service-oriented and user-friendly. After reviewing data and research, a modernized website was designed to deliver a user-friendly experience and made to accommodate the needs of website visitors. “As a result of the studies, the City now has a responsive and accessible website design that can automatically adjust the layout, font sizes, images and buttons to fit a mobile screen,” said Derrick G. Silas, Director of Communications. City Manager Jerald Gilbert said, “We are excited to launch the new website to better serve the needs of the public.”

New Features: The new website includes a hero image background with a toggle button on the left to view other images. A help center is located at the chevron on the right side of the home page; this help center contains a collapsing module with a service request submission tab, city directory, live meetings link, live chat, and social media access. There are 6 main buttons on the home screen of the desktop version and 12 main buttons will appear on a smart phone and tablet. These buttons will make visits to the website as simple as one click. The search bar has been repositioned and made larger.  A calendar and news center has been added to the home page for easy access to events and news.
