The Enid Police Department teaches a core curriculum for the 5th grade students in twelve schools. The Program reaches close to 600 students, in this grade alone, every year. When staffing allows, a full program is presented to the 7th grade students as well. In addition to the 5th and 7th grades, shorter programs are integrated into some of the younger classes also. DARE Officers are trained to teach any age child from Kindergarten up to Junior High. A separate certification is required for the High School program. In recent years, DARE America has even started a program for adults that provides information and assistance in dealing with the questions of substance abuse and bullying in the home.

Programs have been conducted in the past with assistance from the YWCA, YMCA, PreventionWorkz, Youth and Family Services and the Department of Human Services. The Program has also done presentations for many other organizations including Vance Air Force Base, The Garfield County Advocates For Children and numerous schools and childcare centers. |

Our program has had many special supporters over the years. In addition to numerous businesses and private contributors, The DARE Program has had a few more notable names that have supported our endeavors. The 71st Flying Training Wing at Vance Air Force Base has assisted with graduations by providing service personnel and guest speakers for the events. In the fall of 2007, we were pleased to welcome Miss Heather Anderson to Enid. Heather was a contestant in the 2007 Miss USA Pageant. Heather’s platform was based on drug education. She was able to visit Monroe Elementary and speak to several of the grades in a large assembly and also took the time to visit the 5th grade DARE classes in their rooms to speak to them. The Program also had the privilege of having Mr. Brent Price, former NBA standout, speak at a graduation ceremony at Glenwood Elementary. Mr. Price is originally from Enid and chose to continue living in Enid after retiring from the NBA. Colonel Richard Klumpp, Jr., former Commander at Vance Air Force Base has also been highlighted as a guest speaker at Garfield Elementary during the graduation ceremony in 2007. |
